This month’s Thumbs Up goes to Anthony Ingram.

Anthony is an individual that looks at life with a different type of looking glass. Ask anyone that he has crossed paths with and they all say the same thing.  A single quote keeps coming up, “He always makes you smile even on a bad day”.  Born in Pensacola, Fl., but soon Anthony and his grandparents moved to Plainfield where he graduated high school.  He moved to Greencastle in 1990, where many of us in Putnam County have had the honor, to watch this very shy boy become a man, now 35 years old he stands proud to call Greencastle his home.

DISSING THE DISCOUNT!
Where should we eat? That’s the question American families debate every weekend. Do you feel like Chinese? How long will the wait be? And, can Uncle Bob fit into a booth?

This week, I didn’t care about any of this. I just wanted to go someplace where we could use one of those restaurant coupons we get in the mail—or in Zoo Books or Entertainment Books or phone books.

Not because I am cheap…okay that’s part of it, but mainly because for the first time I wanted to feel like I actually saved money using one of these offers. Most of the coupons just sit in the kitchen drawer. I either forget them when we leave or they’re for a restaurant 15 miles from the house and it hardly seems worth the effort for a free Bloomin’ Onion.

Garbo didn’t have it so bad!

Recently I had occasion to see a few of the “kids” who went to school with my daughters and of course, everyone wanted know if I remembered the day that I became envious of Greta Garbo. One day I read that one interviewer claimed that Garbo was tired of being Garbo. Garbo was the Britney Spears of the heyday of motion pictures and she became very tired of photographers chasing her.

The article stated that she “fears the commotion that would follow on her return to Sweden after years of absence” .

History Lesson To Me
A few weeks ago my mother was at McCormick’s Creek State Park, in Owen County at the Canyon Inn having a little family get together with cousins. Late that evening I decided I had to do some research. You know the saying “taking things for granted” when you’re born and raised around here you just don’t realize what you really have in your own back yard.  Sure I took Indiana History in school but it still didn’t really soak in. I just thought you had to go many, many miles away to see real history.  This was when my brain started thinking, yes everyone, and it was engaged and thinking I really have something up there, ok back to what I was thinking.  With less than a few gallons of fuel, thank goodness, there is so much to see and do.      I can see, feel, taste it, and now a grandma myself, I guess I am becoming a part of history too. ...

Online Safety for Your Kids
Protecting your children when they're online is essential these days. Whether your shielding them from people and things or keeping tabs on they're online activity, taking precautions and becoming involved is one of the most important things you can do for your child's safety. It doesn't matter if they're six or sixteen.

The internet can be a wonderful resource, tool, and fun place to be.  Unfortunately, it is also full of bad people and bad things. Of which, you don't want your kids exposed to or susceptible to. These potential dangers can be hidden in places like Myspace, Facebook, or online chat rooms. All of which can be perfectly harmless and fun. But if you don't know who your kids are talking to or what websites they're visiting, there's a potential for trouble; especially for teens.

Of Angels and Roses December
One of my claims to fame is my treasury of friends. Some of which, at times, contribute greatly to my adventuresome spirit. At least that’s my excuse when I find myself in an unusual situation, which seems to be fairly often.

My friend Joe falls right in to that category. Recently he invited my husband and I to help him put together a living nativity scene for the Christmas on the Square in Danville. Claiming to be of sound mind, I should have said no……but then again, my husband contends that my soundness of mind is sometimes in question. So once again my ability to say no went out the window and I found myself gushing like an idiot…..”What a great idea! Can I be the angel?” By the time I left Joe’s office I had offered to make my angel costume, bring two donkeys, two sheep, a pony, two bales of straw and offered my husband as a shepherd. Now how stupid was that?
