life's lottery I can empathize with Dick Wolfsie's concerns about his height as described in his February article, "Height of Insult."
In life's lottery, I got the short end of the stick. At 5 feet--maybe--I'm the shortest one in my family. My mother and my sister were 5' '7'', my father was 5' 10" and my brothers are both over 6 feet tall. With my height and red hair, I felt like the pea plant standing short among the three taller ones in the textbook illustrations of Mendel's laws of genetics.

Just Call 911 Cell phones have made communication easier in the last few years. But there was a time in the not too distant past…..
I grew up in a city suburb. We lived so close to the schools that I walked there for 9 years. Your neighbors really were within spitting distance. Just ask the little boys next door. Now I cannot even see my neighbor’s house much less try to spit on it. Moving into a rural area had its appeal and its drawbacks....
