PHONE HEX
It had probably been six or eight years since I bought a new phone. Not a cell phone, not an iPhone. Just a phone. This perplexed the 21-year-old at the office supply store.

“Let me understand this, Sir. You don’t want a phone for your pocket, a phone that sticks in your ear, or a phone for your car. You want a phone that just sits on a, on a …”

I took just one year of college French because of my encounter with a demonic tape recorder that sent tape flying when I was working on my French pronunciation.

It's no wonder that I had graduated from college and was on my first teaching job before I learned to drive.   My mother, and most of the women in rural Parke County, didn't drive in the 1960s.   My father worked nights in Indianapolis, so my brothers and I often relied on our neighbor to take us to ball games ad other school activities in his ancient black Ford.  As he clattered over the dirt roads, he would proudly declare, "It wouldn't do for some young buck to drive this car."
